Adding and editing devices

SECURITY  By default, all users can add and edit devices, but this setting can be modified

NAVIGATION   > Devices > Devices > New Device

NOTE  Depending on how your Client Portal A branded web portal through which you and your service providers can collaborate on tickets and projects. is set up, they may also be called "Configuration Items," "Installed Assets," or "Assets." To view, add or edit devices, do the following:

  1. To create a new device, navigate to > Devices > Devices > New Device. The New Device page will open.

    To view or edit a device, locate it on the table and click the pencil icon. The Edit Device page will open.
  2. Complete or make changes to the appropriate fields.
  3. Field Definition
    Organization Your Client Portal instance may be configured to use one fo the following terms instead: Account, Business Unit, Client, Company, Customer, Site. This field will only be displayed if you have sub-organizations Previously: Subsidiary. Your Client Portal instance may be configured to use one fo the following terms instead: Sub-Account, Sub-Business Unit, Sub-Client, Sub-Company, Sub-Customer, Sub-Site.. If you do, you may select the sub-organization with which the item is associated.
    Product/Device Select the product or device associated with the item. Either start typing or click the data selector icon to the right of the field.
    Active Select this check box if the item is currently in use by someone.
    Installed On Enter the installation date or use the date selector.
    Warranty Expiration Enter or select the date on which the product warranty expires.
    Serial Number Enter the product serial number. This is an alpha-numeric field. Your entry does not have to be unique.
    Reference Number Enter the product reference number. Your entry does not have to be unique.
    Reference Name Enter the product reference name. Your entry does not have to be unique.
    Contact A person associated with a company. The default value is the user currently logged on. You may select a different contact for this item. Depending on your security permissions, you may be able to add a new contact by click on the + icon.
    Area The location of a device. Indicate where the item is located, for example, "Dan's office in Newark, 2nd floor." This will save time if there is ever a support issue with the device.
    Additional Information This section displays custom (user-defined) fields in our database we wanted to display in the Client Portal.
    Description Enter any notes concerning the item.
  4. Click Save and Close.
